Meritage is a designation for Bordeaux-style wines typically reserved for the best blend produced by a winery in that vintage. This California blend is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon produced from grapes grown in Rutherford district of Napa Valley, the most expensive soil in Napa Valley according to recent vineyard sales in the region. The rich volcanic soil of Rutherford along with excellent growing season of 2005 produced the marvelous grapes that went into the making of this wine.
The grapes were fermented in small tanks, enhancing the famed “Rutherford Dust” Charters.
This wine is brimming with rich flavors of cassis and black currants with subdued swirls of mocha berry and vanilla. Bold yet elegantly smooth and well balanced, this wine is ready to be enjoyed now or will reward the patient collector. It’s an almost-too-good-to-be-true deal at our price, a cool $10 less than under its original label.
Gold, World Wine Championships
"Aromas of dried currants, black pepper, and nuts follows through on a round entry to a dryish medium-to-full body with vanilla, spice, and earth notes. Finishes with supple, tangy, oak kissed finish. A smooth, flavorful, but understated and elegant Old World styled Meritage. that will excel at the table."
